MotorEasy Reading: Which New Car Should You Buy?

which new car should you buy

New cars come in all shapes and sizes. There seems to be a new Sports Utility Vehicle every five minutes, but one with a real performance pedigree is a bit different. We also welcome back a famous old badge, which manages to make an ordinary family car seem a lot more special, but sometimes a simple pocket sized runabout is all that’s needed.

Which Car Should You Buy?: BMW Alpina XD3

The Sports Utility Vehicle with a prestigious twist is the Alpina XD3. Here's a vehicle that can cruise at 158 mph, sprint to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and still deliver a 31.4 mpg combined average - pretty impressive.

ALPINA vehicles are engineered to provide consistent performance and high reliability when driven hard for long periods. Managing heat is critical to ensuring consistent responses, low emissions and long-term durability. The latest lighter and stiffer generation BMW X3 provided ALPINA with a state-of-the-art, high-technology platform that is quick and comfortable.

Plus all new ALPINAs carry a BMW-endorsed three year /124,000-mile warranty, with the XD3 price starting at £57,900. After that as a used vehicle, it will always have a slight premium price over a standard X3, but they will always be far better value. The service history must be maintained if you don’t want to lose a fortune. Otherwise go for a less expensive, less prestigious badge.

Which Car Should You Buy?: Vauxhall Insignia GSi

The Vauxhall Insignia is now available in a GSi version and is Vauxhall’s very first sports model to have the option of diesel power with prices starting at £33,375.

The specification includes a FlexRide chassis, Brembo brakes, All Wheel Drive and torque vectoring with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It is powered by either a new 2.0-litre BiTurbo diesel, or a refined 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit.

This is an impressive package and in 2.0 Turbo specification can get from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds, and on to a maximum speed of 155mph. It is lighter than before and will depreciate heavily. In a few years time, this will be a very cheap model to buy, but you may not need something that large.

Which Car Should You Buy?: Citroen C1 Urban Ride

The special edition Citroen C1 URBAN RIDE starts at £13,180. This updated model is agile and ideal for nipping in and out of traffic with its compact dimensions (3.46m long) and handling (10.2m turning circle), Citroën C1 Urban Ride also has plenty of room for four people.

The ingenious and practical Urban Ride special edition also offers generous boot volume, with capacity ranging from 196-litres to 780-litres (rear bench folded down). It also features a parcel shelf that flips up when opening the tailgate for easy loading. There are also multiple storage spaces throughout the cabin and cup holders too.

Plus absolutely loads of Urban Ride logos on everything from the mats to the dashboard. Small cars like these will always be in demand, although the fact it is a special edition won’t mean it is worth much more than the standard model. So best bought in three years time.

What we can take away from buying one of these brand new models, don’t be in a hurry, become the second owner and you will be making some significant savings.
