New Cars: Top Picks For November

By: James Ruppert
SEAT Mii

This month for new cars, we take a look at an ultra low emission, cheap to own and run Mazda3. Explore the 48 hour test drive on offer from Volkswagen, and if you want to buy an all-electric SEAT, then you can order one right now.

The Low Emission Mazda3

The all-new Mazda3 Saloon Skyactiv-X offers outstanding power with low CO² emissions from 96g/km. This makes it a great company car as Fleet Managers will benefit from low 23% BIK (Benefit in Kind) rate with prices starting from £23,555 on-the-road. It has the Intelligent Mazda M Hybrid 2.0 engine as standard for enhanced fuel efficiency and that also makes it better to drive. Basically what you get is a petrol engine with diesel economy, but without the nasty emissions associated with the old units. It has a really clever system that recovers energy created and recycles it around the car. There’s a saloon and a hatchback amongst the 28 models to choose from, so there should be something here for you.

Luxurious Volkswagen SUV

We were pleased to hear that Volkswagen has extended its 48-hour test drive programme to include the Touareg, their great big luxurious Sports Utility Vehicle. You can borrow a cute relatively small electric eGolf over a couple of days but now you can make your neighbours much more jealous at the opposite end of the product range.

Indeed, the Touareg has recently been named the Caravan and Motorhome Club’s best tow-car in its largest, 1,700 kg-plus trailer weight category, so at least you know it can do the job and get a prize for doing it. Prices start at £49,135 in SEL trim and you will get the versatile 3.0-litre V6 TDI diesel under the bonnet. If you want petrol power then there is a TFSI petrol unit. R-Line and R-Line Tech trims with prices starting at £52,635.

SEAT Electric Run Around

If a sports utility vehicle, even free for a couple of days, is not what you had in mind, then how about something that’s tiny and powered by a battery? That would be the SEAT Mii electric which is available for order right now, and for delivery in early 2020. The full price is from £19,300, or there’s the opportunity for a PCP (personal contract purchase) from £199 per month with £4,399 customer deposit. Plus, SEAT UK have pitched in with a deposit contribution of £500 and APR of 6.9%. It also has a range of 161 miles on a single charge.

Also, don’t hang about because the first 300 customers will receive a home wall box charger, a home charge cable, 3 years servicing and roadside assistance all for free.

Three very different brand new buys there! The Mazda in particular should be a good value buy in four years time once it comes out of the company car fleet. Resale value for electric vehicles are still uncertain, but the SEAT Mii is the perfect runaround for those that want to use it in town.
